- Provide instruction on football fundamental skills with an emphasis on proper, safe instruction.
- Create opportunities for all participants to develop their knowledge of the game and improve their skill levels throughout the course of the season.
- Develop leaders of tomorrow by teaching lessons of dedication, compassion, honest effort, and fair play.
- Maintain and encourage a continual emphasis on academics during the season and throughout the entire school year.
- Build and maintain a sense of community within the organization and across the Dexter.
- Achieve high levels of parental involvement in all aspects of the organization

USA Football is committed and focused on sound principles of long-term athlete development, teaching coaches the proper fundamentals, expanding knowledge and methods, providing resources to guide players with foundational techniques while being focused on safety and making teams better and safer.

Q: WHEN IS DYFL'S FOOTBALL SEASON?
A: Tackle Football will start practicing the week of August 19 with games tentatively starting in September and concluding by the end of October. Practices are traditionally three days a week during the evenings beginning after 6 p.m.

Q: WHAT AGE DOES MY CHILD NEED TO BE TO PARTICIPATE IN FOOTBALL?
A: Dexter children entering grades 3-6 may participate in DYFL Tackle Football. Flag Football is available to Dexter children in grades 1-6.

Q: IS TACKLE FOOTBALL A TRAVEL LEAGUE?
A: Yes! DYFL will consist of home and away games. Home games will take place at Al Ritt Stadium.

A: No, there are no tryouts. Only evaluations for tackle and flag football to ensure kids are placed appropriately.
Q: WHAT EQUIPMENT WILL MY CHILD NEED FOR TACKLE FOOTBALL?
A: A helmet, shoulder pads, mouth guard, jersey, and 1 pair of pants with pads will be provided by DYFL.
Q: WHAT ARE PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES?
A: Parents are expected to bring their child to practices and games. Parents are not expected to stay during practice times, but can if they want. Parent help is needed in the concession stand, chain gang, announcer's booth, apparel table, and with the end of the year banquet.
Q: WHAT SAFETY PRACTICES ARE IN PLACE FOR THE CHILDREN?
A: DYFL coaches and players are members of USA Football and participate in the Heads-Up Training and Certification Program. Coaches attend clinics throughout the Summer that teach proper blocking and tackling techniques. Equipment is inspected and evaluated each season to ensure the children have the proper gear in order to play safe and fun football.
Q: IF MY CHILD ATTENDS A SCHOOL DISTRICT OUTSIDE OF DEXTER, CAN THEY PLAY FOOTBALL WITH DYFL?
A: A child is eligible to play football for DYFL if they are a resident of Dexter or attend Dexter Community Schools.
